Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know

After more than 100 weddings, Eddy knows the questions couples ask. Here are the answers.

What does a master of ceremonies do at a wedding?

A master of ceremonies guides the wedding day itself. He keeps the timeline and timing on track, makes sure guests are in the right place on time, coordinates with the venue and suppliers on the day and solves unexpected problems behind the scenes. That way the couple and their family can fully enjoy the day instead of managing it.

What is the difference between a master of ceremonies and a wedding planner?

A wedding planner organises everything from A to Z, such as suppliers and the venue. A master of ceremonies guides the wedding day itself: he keeps it running smoothly and takes away the stress. They often work closely together, and when they click, you have a strong organisation. At Huwelijkssuite, Eddy also gives expert advice on organising the wedding.

Can a friend or family member be the master of ceremonies?

They can, but that person will be working all day instead of being a guest. A professional master of ceremonies knows the timing, has contacts for emergencies and reacts faster when something goes wrong. That way friends and family stay guests, and a friendship stays a friendship.

How much experience does master of ceremonies Eddy Kips have?

Eddy Kips has been a wedding master of ceremonies since 2010 and has guided more than 100 weddings, both in Belgium and abroad. His work has been recognised with an award from House of Weddings.

What if something goes wrong on our wedding day?

Eddy solves it calmly and behind the scenes, so you never notice. He once made sure a coach that broke down on arrival at the church was ready to go again after the service, and during a sudden thunderstorm he moved the programme indoors just in time, together with the venue and the chef.

When should we book a master of ceremonies?

As soon as your wedding date and venue are fixed. Popular dates, especially Saturdays in spring and summer, book up quickly. The sooner you get in touch, the more time there is to build a tailored timeline together.

Where does Huwelijkssuite work?

Huwelijkssuite is based in Antwerp and guides weddings all over Belgium. For a destination wedding abroad, you can count on Eddy too.

What does the master of ceremonies do the day before the wedding?

Eddy gives the couple a call the day before. He checks the weather forecast and gives advice, for example if it is going to be a very hot day.

What is in a master of ceremonies’ emergency kit?

Eddy always carries umbrellas, a sewing kit in case something tears and paper tissues. He also has contacts who can help in an emergency.

Does the master of ceremonies also manage the suppliers?

Finding and managing suppliers is the wedding planner’s job. On the wedding day itself, the master of ceremonies does coordinate timing with the venue, kitchen, photographer and DJ. If a supplier does not keep to the agreements, he stays calm, informs the wedding planner and actively helps find a solution.

How does the master of ceremonies let family and friends enjoy the day?

Eddy is there, but never in the way. Because everything is planned down to the last detail and he keeps the flow of the day in his hands, nobody else has to think about how it runs. He agrees on a secret signal with the couple, like a wink: when he sees it, he solves it immediately and discreetly.

What time should the couple arrive at the reception?

On time: if the reception starts at 5 pm, the couple is there at 5 pm. The guests come for the couple. A good timeline makes this achievable, with room for the unexpected.
